[ Gaming & Design - 5:45 pm ]

RPG Designer David Hill wrote an interesting post today. In short, the economy being what it is he needs to turn some quick monies, and has offered to write a game for anyone for $200 bucks.

I’ll pony $50 bucks, and I’m looking for exactly three other people who will do the same. We’ll give this money to David, who will in turn write a game to be released fully under the Creative Commons license. The four of us will agree on the basic concept of the game, and hand off to David for completion. This is not design by committee. We will hand in a four sentence description of the game and turn him loose on it.

If you don’t have 50 bucks to join in on the fun, but would like to contribute a little money toward the game, please leave a comment below indicating how much you can contribute and we’ll pull the trigger when we get to 200 bucks.

This is a unique opportunity for some of us to get something cool out the door, released using Creative Commons. Let’s make it happen.

  1. I’m dead broke but I love this idea of community funded game writing. Next round, I’ll invest. Invest in the FUTURE!

  3. I’ve had a couple other people who’ve said “I can’t this time, but next time…” it will be interesting to see how this works out.

Thanks for jumping in Carl. I hope this goes great! We should email (link says ‘webmaster’ and is below & to the right of the comment box I’m typing this in.

  4. So we have our second participant! Woo hoo.

I’m rather excited about this project now. It’s really a great idea Duane’s got going. If this becomes popular, I might do a follow-up some time soon. My wife was saying there’s a service that does on-demand, personalized romance novels. I like the idea of personalized art, it has a sort of romantic tone, the kind of whimsical thing that makes me appreciate being a creative professional.

In short, there should probably be a “Next Time,” for this idea. I’ve heard a lot of very positive comments so far.

  5. I wish I could get in on this but I’m on the “oh crap, no money” team for the next couple months.

  6. I can pony up some illustrations for it. I’m booked up till January, but I’m sure I can squeeze in a half-dozen or so illustrations on weekends and such. “Spare Time” I think some people call it. Besides, I love any sort of collaborative work.

  7. Screw it, I like the idea too much. I’m in for $50, if for no other reason than Carl Rigney is my brother from another mother. Actually, I’d just really love to be a part of this and see where we can take it. :)

  16. I’ve been meaning to drop in and see how this is going. Was chatting with Mr Hill over on RPG Net and mentioned you might want some help with this one. I don’t know how much help I can be, but nobody at Game Chef seems to want my assistance so I thought I’d at least stop by and see what was going down.
